SAHEL PEACE PROJECT: We start a new research project, sponsored by JSPS Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (A), JSPS. Through environmental restoration efforts in the Sahel region of West Africa, our project aims to rebuild the livelihoods of people in agriculture and pastoralism, eradicate hunger and poverty in local communities, and build a peace-building model that will deter ethnic conflict between farmers and herders. For the next five academic years, we plan to continue our activities based on the three pillars of research, social contribution, and information dissemination.

Project title: Land rehabilitation based approach for livelihood support and peace building in Sahel region, West Africa (AY2021-2025)

Here, we will introduce not only the activities based in the Niger FS, but also the research, education, and public relations activities of Kyoto University scholars who carry out their research in West Africa and Niger.
